Obesity & Cancer: The Deadly Link

Smoking, pollution and overexposure to the sun are the usual suspects where cancer is concerned. But a disturbing new report suggests 1-in-5 cancer deaths is linked to obesity.
The sad reality is that thousands of cancer deaths are caused by excessive weight gain and the death toll continues to rise.

The good news: you can substantially lower your risk - and shrink your waistline at the same time -- by simply changing your ways and adopting a healthier lifestyle

The most apparent example of obesity and cancer is in post menopausal women. An overweight woman has twice the risk of developing cancer as a lean one. Excessive weight has also been linked to cancers of the uterus, kidney, esophagus, gallbladder, breast, colon and rectum.

As if those findings aren’t frightening enough, a recent study appearing in the New England Journal of Medicine states that many types of cancer that were not previously linked to obesity are, in fact, caused by expanding waistlines. Those include cancers of the liver, pancreas, prostate, cervix, ovary and stomach.

According to American Cancer Society researchers, some 90,000 cancer deaths are linked to obesity. Such scary stats are finally opening eyes. Experts are now working to better understand how fat cells fuel cancer. This could lead to new therapies. Unfortunately, plenty of unanswered questions remain.

Nutritional experts will tell you that cancer deaths caused by obesity can be prevented each year. The first and hardest step is becoming aware of the seriousness of the disease. The next step is educating ourselves and our children. Once we are ready to face the reality of obesity -- then we will finally be ready to fight it.

The most important weapon in the war against weight and cancer is better nutrition. Food in itself has properties that help protect against cancer. Fruits and vegetables have high antioxidants that help fight off free radicals. Free radicals are formed when weak bonds split. They attack the nearest stable molecule and steal its electron. Normally, the body can handle free radicals, but if antioxidants are unavailable, major damage can occur.

And if you think taking a vitamin pill will give you all the nutrients and antioxidants you need, think again. Vitamin pills lack a minute substance called phytochemicals. They also lack GLYCONUTRIENTS, an important missing link in our diets. Phytochemicals aid antioxidants in keeping the body healthy. They are found in food - especially fresh fruits and vegetables. Choose fruits and vegetables with deep colors -- they contain the most antioxidants.

Glyconutrients are a different story. They are so processed out of our diets, that they must be suplimented. No Sweat Fitness can help you find sources of this wonderful nutritional product.

Obesity is one of the greatest health challenges of our time. Proper nutrition is the fundamental weapon we have to fight this war. Now, it’s time to attack. Let’s win this battle and leave the losing to all that extra weight!

We never know what the future holds for us, but enough studies have proven that obesity (or simply unhealthy eating that is manifested in our arteries!) is the leading cause of PREVENTABLE death in our nation.

Without speaking for the President, or anyone else faced with problems brought on by eating unhealthy foods, I think it is safe to say that if they only knew the repercussions of their actions, they would have eaten more healthfully all along.

Now YOU know, so don’t wait until you get a potentially deadly wake-up call to make some healthy changes. Forgo the drive-thru foods; if it is greasy let it slide on by! Always remember that there is hope. Whether you’ve never exercised, never been on a formal nutrition plan or whether you always feel weak and tired with poor muscle quality -- it’s not too late to reclaim your health and to reverse or slow the ageing process.

I know there are many people in your life that want you healthy and strong for a long time. Please spread the word and together let’s kill the big fat lie.

My prescription for the President and for you:
1. Drink plenty of water each day. Anything other than water is not as good.
2. Eat a well-balanced diet filled with fresh fruits, veggies, whole grains and lean proteins.
3. Don’t feel deprived if you pass up unhealthy foods, rather, realize that eating them actually deprives you of the life you really want.
4. Supplement your diet with glyconutrients and a good vitamin supplement
5. Exercise! Not only does it do your body good, it clears your mind and washes worries away. 6. Get plenty of rest and reduce your stress
7. Give thanks to and have faith in our Creator
